August 17, (THEWILL) -Barcelona defender, Ronald Araujo, will miss upcoming matches after sustaining a leg injury, the Spanish La Liga club announced on Thursday.
The Uruguayan centre back has suffered damage to the femoral bicep muscle in his left leg, according to a statement from Barcelona. The club said Araujo’s recovery time will determine when he can return.
Spanish media outlets monitored by THEWILL reported that the 23-year-old could be sidelined for a few weeks due to the injury. This comes at an inopportune time for Barcelona, who host Cadiz on Sunday, in their second La Liga match of the season. Araujo had started for Barcelona in their season-opening 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano last weekend.
His absence leaves Barcelona manager Xavi with one less option in central defence. Araujo was a regular starter last season, making 42 appearances across all competitions.
