May 24, (THEWILL) – Jordi Alba, the esteemed Barcelona player, will be concluding his illustrious career with the La Liga giants at the conclusion of the current season, as Barcelona announced an agreement to mutually terminate his contract.
The 34-year-old, whose existing contract was initially set to expire by the end of the 2023/2024 season, has an impressive track record of 458 appearances for the club and has earned 19 major trophies since his official debut against Real Sociedad in 2012.
In an official statement, Barcelona expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards Alba, saying: “FC Barcelona would like to publicly express its gratitude to Alba for his professionalism, commitment and dedication, and his ever-positive and friendly relationship with all members of the Barca family, and wishes him every fortune in the future. Alba had initially progressed through the club’s youth ranks but departed in 2005. He subsequently found success with Valencia, where he established himself as a regular first-team player before eventually returning to the Nou Camp in 2012 under Barcelona’s acquisition.
