SAN FRANCISCO, December 09, (THEWILL) – The UEFA Champions League fixture between Paris Saint-Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir was delayed on Tuesday amid allegations of racism levelled against the fourth official.
Proceedings were stopped after 13 minutes of play at the Parc des Princes grounds of the Paris side, and both sets of players gathered on the sidelines for more than 10 minutes.
Basaksehir’s substitute Demba Ba was heard saying to the fourth official Sebastian Coltescu: “You never this say ‘this white guy’, you say ‘this guy’, so why when you mention… listen to me… so why when you mention a black guy [do] you have to say ‘this black guy’?”
Then, the Basaksehir’s players walked away from the pitch down the tunnel. And, they were followed by PSG’s players.
The English Twitter account of Basaksehir made a post saying the club’s assistant coach, Pierre Webo, had been called a racist word by Coltescu.
It also posted an image stating ‘No To Racism’. Shortly after, Galatasaray posted the same graphic in apparent solidarity with their counterparts.
