August 04, (THEWILL) – Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea, are in advanced talks to loan Michy Batshuayi to Wolves for the 2022/2023 campaign.
In addition to having one of the Premier League’s smallest rosters, Bruno Lage’s team has only added two senior players this summer: Nathan Collins from Burnley and Hwang Hee-chan. They suffered a setback when Raul Jimenez suffered an MCL injury at the end of July, limiting their expectations for the upcoming season.
Patrick Cutrone and Leo Bonatini, two more strikers on the books of Wolves, are unlikely to be relied upon by Lage. Instead, they intend to sign Chelsea’s Batshuayi to a loan agreement to shore up their limitation in the striking third.
The Belgium striker’s contract at Stamford Bridge has one year still to run, but the Blues have the option of extending it by an additional year. Should Batshuayi want to move to Molineux, Wolves would cover a portion of his salary and he will be assured of regular playing minutes. Everton are still interested in Batshuayi despite Wolves moving ahead of them in the race.
Batshuayi scored 14 goals in 42 appearances for Besiktas during his loan season there last year. Prior to that, he spent time on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, and Crystal Palace, where his success levels varied.
