March 04, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga top spot from Borussia Dortmund on goal difference, after beating relegation-threatened Stuttgart 2-1 on Saturday.
This came in response to Dortmund’s victory against RB Leipzig on Friday. It was Bayern’s fourth win in five league outings.
Despite a sublime save by Fabian Bredlow to keep out Leon Goretzka’s early header, Bayern did not look entirely comfortable against Stuttgart’s high press and gave away chances. Matthijs de Ligt was involved at both ends of the field and it was his effort that paved way for the visitors.
A 25-yard drive from the defender gave Bayern the lead six minutes before half-time, shortly after he had saved Bayern by clearing an effort off the line. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting added a second in the 62nd minute, but Stuttgart’s Juan Jose Perea pulled back a late 88th minute goal.
This victory gives Bayern a timely boost ahead of the return leg of their UEFA Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Stuttgart will seek to improve when they meet Frankfurt on Saturday.
