February 20, (THEWILL) — Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tacha, has spoken out against false rape allegations, warning that such claims harm real victims and reduce public trust in genuine cases.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, Tacha reacted to the recent case involving TikTok user, Mirabel, who admitted to fabricating a rape allegation.
Earlier in the week, Mirabel had taken to social media to narrate how she was allegedly raped by an unknown man. The allegation quickly gained attention and sparked widespread reactions. However, on Thursday, following the involvement of concerned Nigerians, the police and other relevant authorities, she later admitted the claim was false, citing depression as the reason for her actions.
Reacting to the development, Tacha said, “Rape is a very serious issue. Women should never weaponise rape for any reason, because at the end of the day, you are taking away from the real victims.”
She said false accusations make it harder for real victims to be believed and cause people to question genuine reports.
Calling for accountability, she added, “If any girl comes out to accuse a guy falsely of raping her, I honestly think she should be taught a lesson.”
While she acknowledged that mental health challenges may influence some behaviour, Tacha stressed that false allegations must have consequences to show how serious the issue is.
“I am not going to back down from the fact that women still do get raped. I am not going back down from the fact that there are real victims out there”, she said.
She also spoke about the emotional impact of false claims, stating that they “toy with your mental health,” affecting both the accused person and the wider public.
Following Mirabel’s admission, the Ogun State Police Command announced plans to arrest and prosecute her after her discharge from the hospital. The authorities said the action is meant to discourage false allegations and protect the credibility of genuine cases.
Tacha concluded by urging women not to trivialise rape accusations, emphasising that the priority should be supporting real survivors and ensuring justice is served.
