February 05, (THEWILL) — Belgian designer, Pieter Mulier, has been appointed the new creative director of Versace, the brand announced on Thursday.
In a joint statement shared on the brand’s Instagram page, Versace and Prada Group said Mulier’s appointment “marks the beginning of a new chapter for the brand”.
Mulier joins Versace after leaving Alaïa, the prestigious Parisian fashion house founded in 1964 by Tunisian-born designer Azzedine Alaïa, where he served as creative director for five years.
At Alaïa, he helped bring new life to the label and attracted a new group of followers.
Versace’s executive chairman, Lorenzo Bertelli, said Mulier was chosen for his vision and respect for the brand’s heritage.
“We believe that he can truly unlock Versace’s full potential and that he will be able to engage in a fruitful dialogue with the brand’s strong legacy”, he said.
The appointment follows a period of transition for Versace. In 2025, Donatella Versace stepped down as creative director after nearly 30 years and became the brand’s ambassador. Italian fashion designer Dario Vitale briefly took over the role before leaving late last year.
Mulier has spent much of his career working with top designers and fashion houses. He started under Raf Simons and later held key roles at Jil Sander, Dior, and Calvin Klein.
Prada acquired Versace last year from Capri Holdings for 1.25 billion euros ($1.4 billion). Mulier’s appointment comes as part of the brand’s fresh direction under its new ownership.
