
April 17, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) saw another exciting slew of fixtures on matchday 14 on Sunday, with eight games played, resulting in four home wins, an away win, and three draws.
One of the highlights of the matchday was the Remo Stars versus Bendel Insurance game, where Remo Stars were eager to end Insurance’s unbeaten streak at their Ikenne home turf. Despite Remo Stars’ determination, the game ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw, extending Insurance’s unbeaten streak to 14 games and maintaining their top spot with 28 points.
During the game, Bendel Insurance was relentless in their efforts to score, with multiple chances created by both sides. The hosts broke the deadlock in the 16th minute with Kwame Mawuena’s header to Qudus Akanni’s corner kick. However, Bendel Insurance restored parity five minutes later with Divine Nwachukwu’s sublime finish to Ebuka Akobundu’s cross. There were several more opportunities for both teams but the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
In another match, Plateau United defeated Akwa United by a lone goal at the New Jos Stadium, allowing them to jump to the fifth position with 21 points. Mustaph Ibrahim scored in the 37th minute for the Peace Boys.
Meanwhile, at the Akure Township Stadium, Enyimba claimed their first-ever away win over Kwara United with a 2-1 victory. Mbaoma Chijioke’s brace in the 29th and 78th minute secured the win for the People’s Elephants, while Samad Kadiri converted a penalty as consolation for the Harmony boys in the 36th minute.
At the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa United recorded their third consecutive victory with a 3-0 win over Lobi Stars. Stephen Wisdom’s brace and Jerry Alex’s goal gave the South Southerners a much-needed boost on the Group B table, where they now have 15 points.
