April 6, (THEWILL)- Karim Benzema, the French striker who made the move from Real Madrid to Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad in 2023, has claimed that his current goal drought is due to a lack of support from his teammates.
The 36-year-old enjoyed a prolific season with Real Madrid in 2023, scoring 19 goals in 24 games before his high-profile transfer to the Saudi Pro League. However, since joining Al Ittihad, Benzema’s form has taken a significant downturn.
After netting nine times in his first 13 league games for the Saudi club, Benzema has endured a tough spell, failing to score since a 4-2 win over Al Khaleej on November 30, 2023. The striker’s recent comments suggest he believes his teammates are not providing him with the same level of support he received at the Bernabeu.
“It’s because it’s not the same game, it’s not the same players, I need to be helped,” Benzema said when questioned about his lack of goals, adding: “I need help on the pitch. I can’t win the game alone. I need a lot of things.”
Benzema’s struggles have reignited speculation about a potential return to Europe, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and his former club Real Madrid all reportedly interested in the veteran striker. While Benzema previously denied any unrest in Saudi Arabia, his latest comments have once again fuelled these transfer rumours.
