May 27, (THEWILL) — A major Bollywood workers’ union has asked its members not to work with Bollywood star Ranveer Singh following his reported exit from “Don 3.”
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) said producers had already spent about 450 million rupees (approximately $5.3 million) on pre-production before Singh allegedly withdrew from the film.
The union said it asked Singh several times to explain his decision but claimed he did not respond. FWICE has now issued a “non-cooperation directive” against the actor until he meets with its representatives.
FWICE president BN Tiwari said the decision was made to show that “a superstar is not bigger than the rules”.
The directive is not a legal ban, but it could affect future film projects because FWICE represents thousands of film workers, including technicians and crew members.
The dispute reportedly began after filmmaker Farhan Akhtar filed a complaint following Singh’s reported last-minute exit from the film.
Reports said shooting for “Don 3” was expected to begin within weeks when Singh withdrew from the project.
Singh’s team said the matter should be handled with “restraint and maturity”.
“Don 3” is the latest film in the popular “Don” franchise, which was first led by Amitabh Bachchan and later rebooted with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role.
