October 27, (THEWILL) – Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, netted his 10th goal for the club as they thrashed Qarabag 5-1 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening. The Bundesliga leaders dominated from the outset, taking the lead through Florian Wirtz after just five minutes.
However, Qarabag equalised soon after through Toral Bayramov 11 minutes later. Alejandro Grimaldo quickly restored Leverkusen’s advantage just before the half-hour mark, before Boniface extended their lead just 6 minutes later with a powerful long-range effort. The Nigerian international was set up by Wirtz for his milestone 10th goal for the club since arriving in July.
After the break, Leverkusen continued to control the game, with Grimaldo netting his second in the 54th minute. Edmond Tapsoba completed the rout three minutes later as Xabi Alonso’s side made it three wins from three in Europe this season.
Before being substituted, Boniface had 33 touches and completed 87% of his passes. He did, however, miss one big opportunity to add to his tally. The 22-year-old forward now has two goals and one assist in the competition so far.
Overall, it was a comfortable victory for the high-flying Germans, who sit top of both the Bundesliga and their Europa League group after Thursday’s emphatic performance.
