October 27, (THEWILL) – Nigerian football giants Enyimba have been knocked out of the inaugural African Football League (AFL) after a heavy 4-0 aggregate defeat to Moroccan club, Wydad Casablanca.
The People’s Elephants went into the second leg trailing 1-0 after losing at home in the first leg. However, a dominant performance from Wydad in the return match saw them triumph 3-0 and progress to the semi-finals.
Wydad took just four minutes to open the scoring through Ayoub El Amloud at the Mohamed V Stadium. Jarmal Harkass then doubled their advantage 38 minutes before Yahia Attiyat Allah netted a third just before half-time to complete a comprehensive victory.
Despite creating some chances, Enyimba were unable to find a breakthrough and bowed out of the lucrative tournament without scoring over two legs, and missed out on the $1 million prize money awarded to losing quarter-finalists.
Meanwhile, Wydad advanced onto the semi-finals and remained in contention for the staggering $4 million prize awarded to the eventual winners of the African Football League’s inaugural edition.
