August 19, (THEWILL) – Brentford claimed bragging rights over west London rivals, Fulham, with an emphatic 3-0 victory at Craven Cottage in the English Premier League on Saturday.
In the first-half, striker Yoane Wissa and a second-half brace from Bryan Mbeumo, secured a comfortable win for the Bees, extending their unbeaten record in London derbies to 11 matches. Wissa pounced on an error from Fulham defender, Issa Diop, to give Brentford the lead on the stroke of half-time. The Congo international kept his composure to slot the ball past goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, for his second goal of the season.
Fulham attempted to respond after the break but Bobby De Cordova-Reid could only rattle the crossbar with a powerful volley. However, the 10-man Cottagers’ fate was sealed when captain Tim Ream received a second yellow card for conceding a penalty on 64 minutes.
Mbeumo stepped up to convert the spot kick, with his effort clipping the post on its way in. The French forward then rounded off the scoring late on, converting Kristoffer Ajer’s pinpoint cross. It was a dominant display from Thomas Frank’s Brentford, who coped admirably without suspended talisman Ivan Toney.
The emphatic derby victory lifts the Bees into the top half of the table. They will hope to continue their progress when they welcome Crystal Palace to the Gtech Community Stadium in Saturday. That same day, Fulham travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal.
