August 19, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion moved to the top of the English Premier League table after a commanding 4-1 win away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
The victory at Molineux was Brighton’s second in a row to start the new season. Kaoru Mitoma opened the scoring for the visitors with a superb individual effort in the 15th minute. The Japanese midfielder picked up the ball 40 yards out, beat three Wolves players with some silky footwork and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Brighton took complete control of the game early in the second half, scoring three goals within the space of just nine minutes. Pervis Estupinan doubled their lead 60 seconds after the restart, finishing off a cutback from Mitoma. Solly March then netted a quickfire brace, tapping in two carbon copy goals from teenager Julio Enciso’s assists.
Wolves got a goal back through substitute Hwang Hee-chan’s header after the hour mark but it was mere consolation. The home side had earlier missed several chances to equalise in the first half and were made to pay for their profligacy after the break.
Matheus Nunes’ late red card summed up a miserable afternoon for Wolves, who slumped to their first defeat under new boss Gary O’Neil. Brighton, meanwhile, will be delighted with their early season form under Roberto De Zerbi as they sit top of the table with six points from two games. Next up, Wolves travel to Everton while Brighton host West Ham at the Amex Stadium looking to make it three wins from three.
