April 04, (THEWILL) – Popular British actor and comedian, Russell Brand, has been charged with rape, indecent assault and sexual assault between 1999 and 2005.
A statement issued by the Metropolitan Police stated that Brand was facing charges of rape of a woman in the Bournemouth area in 1999, indecent assault on a woman in the Westminster area of London in 2001, oral rape and sexual assault of a woman in the Westminster area of London in 2004, and another sexual assault of a woman in the Westminster area of London between 2004 and 2005.
The statement further revealed that the charges relate to four different women.
In September 2023, several interviews made by the police and investigations conducted by Sunday Times, the Times and Channel 4 revealed serious allegations against the actor which he denied, claiming that his relationships have always been consensual.
Brand is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court for a first hearing on May 2nd.
In the 2000s, Brand appeared on Big Brother spin-off shows Big Brother’s Big Mouth and Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack. He also hosted a BBC Radio 2 show from 2006 to 2008.
The TV and film star was married to US pop singer, Katy Perry, from 2010 to 2012 but is now married to Laura Gallacher and they have two children.
