May 29 (THEWILL) — British-Nigerian rapper Skepta has called for global support against what he described as ongoing injustice in Nigeria.
In a video message circulating online, Skepta said a memory from the End SARS protests made him reflect on the situation in the country.
“I just had a memory on my phone, when we were at the EndSars protest on ground and it just got me thinking,” he said. “It still feels like there’s just so much injustice still in Nigeria.”
The rapper said he would continue using his platform to speak against injustice.
“Whenever I can, whether it’s at my shows, verbally, imagery, whatever I can do, we’re going to speak up for injustice at all times,” he said.
Skepta also said Nigerians often speak up about problems in other countries and asked people around the world to do the same for Nigeria.
“Nigerians, we’re like that as people… we’re going to speak up, but please help us Nigerians, we need help too,” he said.
He added, “This is my message to the people. I know that we’re resilient and we make everything look good, but we need help too, so please help us, help Nigeria speak up.”
Skepta, born Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr., is known for speaking about his Nigerian roots in his music and interviews.
His comments come as many Nigerians continue to discuss hardship and leadership in the country.
