April 13, (THEWILL) — Pop star Britney Spears has voluntarily entered a treatment facility following her recent arrest for driving under the influence.
A representative confirmed that the 44-year-old singer checked into rehab on Sunday, describing the move as a step toward addressing ongoing personal challenges.
The representative added that she is seeking help to make a “long overdue change” in her life.
Spears entered the facility to focus on recovery and accountability after her March 4 arrest for driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs.
The singer was arrested in Ventura County, California, after reports of erratic driving. She was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
Her representative previously described the incident as “completely inexcusable,” adding that Spears plans to comply with the law and take steps toward improving her well-being.
The development comes amid continued public attention on Spears’ life following the end of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021.
In recent years, she has largely stepped back from music to focus on her personal life.
Spears is due back in court next month as the case continues.
