May 09, (THEWILL) – Nigerian artists continue to make waves on the global stage, securing multiple nominations for the 2025 BET Awards.
Ayra Starr is in the lead with three nominations — Best International Act, Best New Artist, and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.
Tems follows closely with two nominations for her tracks “Burning” and “Hold On” from her debut album “Born in the Wild”.
Meanwhile, Rema, Shallipopi, and Burna Boy each received one nomination—Rema for Best International Act, Shallipopi for Best New International Act, and Burna Boy for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.
Other African nominees include South Africa’s Tyla and Uncle Waffles, Ghana’s Black Sherif, and Tanzania’s Abigail Chams.
On the international front, Kendrick Lamar dominates with ten nominations, including Album of the Year for GNX and Video of the Year for “Not Like Us”.
Doechii, Drake, Future, and GloRilla each secured six nominations, while Metro Boomin received five. SZA and The Weeknd earned four nominations each.
The nominations were selected by the BET Voting Academy, comprising professionals from music, film, television, and sports industries.
The award ceremony will take place on June 9, 2025, at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on BET.
