June 15, (THEWILL)- Grammy award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, has broken the record for highest-grossing concert by an African artiste in the United States.
On Friday, Touring Data revealed that he raked in $1.725 million during his ‘I Told Them’ tour at the Capital One Arena in Washington on March 7, 2024.
The achievement means the singer has also broken his previous African record set at the TD Garden in Boston.
“Burnaboy earns the highest-grossing arena-concert by an African artist in US history with $1.725 million at Capital One Arena in Washington on March 7, 2024, surpassing his own record at TD Garden in Boston,” the post read.
In 2023, the ‘African Giant’ hitmaker was named the African artiste with the highest revenue from a single concert.
Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy rose to stardom in 2013 with the release of ‘Like to Party,’ the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E.’.
In 2021, Burna Boy won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammy Awards with his fifth album, ‘Twice As Tall’.
In April, the Port Harcourt-born singer made ‘Time’ Magazine’s list of 100 most influential people for 2024.
The Canadian Senate also hailed him for contributing to their entertainment space.
