April 28, (THEWILL)- The newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan extended their unbeaten league run to 28 games with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Torino on Sunday. Hakan Calhanoglu scored twice to give Inter a comfortable win at the San Siro, where celebrations continued after their Scudetto title triumph earlier in the week.
A party atmosphere greeted the Inter players, with confetti and fireworks before kick-off as fans revelled in the club’s league success. Torino’s players formed a guard of honour as Inter entered the pitch, and coach Simone Inzaghi joined in the festivities with supporters.
In a historic moment, the match was officiated by an all-female refereeing team, led by Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi. She sent off Torino’s Adrien Tameze four minutes after half-time for a foul on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, tilting the match in Inter’s favour.
Calhanoglu opened the scoring seven minutes later, firing home from Mkhitaryan’s pass. The Turkish midfielder then converted a penalty four minutes later after Marcus Thuram was fouled. Inter’s win moves them onto 89 points, 19 clear of rivals Milan with four games remaining.
Torino, who remained 10th on 46 points, could only watch as Inter’s players paraded through Milan’s streets on open-top buses, continuing the Scudetto celebrations long into the evening.
