May 13, (THEWILL) – Canadian rapper, Daystar Peterson, popularly known as Tory Lanez, has been hospitalised after he was stabbed multiple times during an altercation at a correctional facility in California.
The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, May 12, at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.
An update posted on Lanez’s official Instagram account revealed that he sustained 14 stab wounds to his back, torso, head, and face, resulting in the collapse of both lungs. He was briefly placed on a ventilator but has since stabilised and is now breathing on his own.
“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the post read.
Prison officials confirmed that while the injuries are serious, they are not life-threatening.
Pedro Calderón Michel, spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, said the attack occurred at about 7:20 a.m.
He explained that prison staff responded swiftly, providing first aid before Lanez was taken by emergency services to a hospital in Bakersfield for further treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with officials from the correctional facility working alongside the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
