March 23, (THEWILL) – 31-year-old Manchester United midfielder, Casemiro, will captain Brazil for the first time under interim coach, Ramon Menezes, in Saturday’s friendly against Morocco.
Menezes has called up a squad of 23 players for the game, which will be played at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier. Casemiro is one of 10 players in the squad, who were also part of the Brazil squad that reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar.
The squad also includes a number of uncapped players, including 18-year-old defender, Guilherme Biro and 19-year-old midfielder, Vitinho. Brazil are looking to rebuild after their disappointing World Cup campaign, and Menezes has said he is looking to give young players a chance to impress.
This will not be Casemiro’s first time as national team captain, though. He has captained Brazil on 10 occasions before, under his previous manager Tite. However, it is a significant step to be handed the armband for the first game under a different manager.
