June 27, (THEWILL) – Petr Cech is leaving his position as Chelsea’s Technical and Performance Adviser, as the club reorganisation continues under new owners, the Todd Boehly consortium.
In 2019, the former Blues goalie accepted the position, making his way back to Stamford Bridge, after featuring at rival London club, Arsenal. The 40-year-old played with Chelsea for 11 years, during which time he won 13 trophies, including four Premier League championships and the UEFA Champions League.
After the consortium, formed by American billionaire, Boehly, acquired Chelsea to ease the club from government sanctions imposed under the previous Roman Abramovich era, Cech is the most recent employee to quit the team. Club chairman, Bruce Buck, will retire on June 30. Last week, the resignation of club director, Marina Granovskaia was announced.
In a statement about his departure, Cech said: “It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years. With the club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside. I am pleased that the club is now in an excellent position with the new owners and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.”
Boehly bade Cech farewell, saying: “Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best.”
