June 27, (THEWILL) – Habu Ahmed Gumel, the president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), is confident that the athletes who will compete for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, between July 28 and August 8, would uphold the country’s honour.
Speaking at this year’s Olympic Day Celebration, which was held at the National Stadium in Lagos, Gumel added that all essential preparations had been made to guarantee that the travel documents for the journey to the United Kingdom were in order.
According to the President, the athletes were training not just for the Birmingham Games but also for the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games, which will be held in Konya, Turkey, from August 9 to August 18.
“We have already named all the athletes going both to Birmingham and Konya,” Gumel said. “The athletes are already collecting their visas and we have gone very far as regards that. Already, we have the list of all the athletes that we will be taking to the two games.
“We do not have any problem as many of our athletes have already done their biometrics, so we don’t have any problem.”
