May 20, (THEWILL) — Nigerian entertainers are calling for swift action after recent kidnappings and attacks in Oyo State.
Actress Opeyemi Aiyeola appealed to public figures and traditional rulers to use their influence to raise awareness.
In a video on Instagram, she said:
“This video is just to call the attention of well-influential colleagues with the platform, the connection and the voice, to please lend a voice to the masses… This is closer to home than expected. Oyo State is closer to home. Please lend your platform, lend your voices.”
Kehinde Bankole also demanded government intervention, warning that lives are at stake. She wrote:
“It is no longer about why it is happening; it is now simply about lives! Lives are being lost! This should not be our new normal, children running for their lives in 2026! Oh God.”
Bankole addressed claims that kidnappings are politically motivated, adding: “Even if the kidnappings are a smear campaign on the government, it should be all the more reason… to tackle insecurity with full wrath and force.”
Nollywood producer Laide Olabanji criticized the government for failing to protect citizens, stating:
“Nigerians are being killed every minute. And you are not afraid of God who created heaven and earth. You’ve turned the citizens’ lives to kite, they are being killed every day, and you are not responsive.”
Actress Toyin Abraham expressed heartbreak over the recent abductions, which included several school children and teachers, one of whom was murdered.
She said:
“It is heartbreaking to see innocent lives lost, families thrown into mourning, children living in fear… We cannot normalize violence. We must continue to speak up, support one another and pray for peace to return to our land.”
The recent attacks have intensified public concern and highlight the growing insecurity in parts of Nigeria. Celebrities continue to use their platforms to call for urgent government action to protect citizens.
