August 30, (THEWILL) — Bayern Munich have finalised a season-long loan agreement with Chelsea for striker, Nicolas Jackson, with the German champions paying €15 million upfront. The deal includes an option to purchase the Senegal international permanently for an additional €65 million, bringing the total package to €80 million should Bayern activate the clause next summer.
Jackson travelled to Germany on Saturday to complete his medical examination after being granted permission by Chelsea. The 24-year-old forward has already agreed personal terms on a permanent contract that would commence from next summer if Bayern decide to make the transfer permanent. A sell-on clause forms part of the arrangement between the two clubs.
The striker found himself excluded from Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca’s squads for recent pre-season matches against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan whilst both parties explored transfer possibilities. Jackson had previously extended his Chelsea contract until 2033 in September, but his form declined significantly during the latter half of last season following a hamstring injury in February.
Chelsea strengthened their attacking options during the summer transfer window by signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town for £30 million and Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion for more than £50 million. Both players moved ahead of Jackson in the pecking order during the Club World Cup tournament, prompting the striker to seek regular first-team opportunities elsewhere with next year’s World Cup approaching.
Bayern required additional forward depth behind Harry Kane, who remains their primary striker option. Jackson scored 17 goals during his debut Chelsea season after joining from Villarreal in 2023, followed by 13 goals and six assists last campaign as the Blues claimed the UEFA Conference League title and qualified for the UEFA Champions League through a fourth-place English Premier League finish.
