August 30, (THEWILL) — Chelsea have withdrawn Nicolas Jackson from a proposed loan transfer to Bayern Munich following an injury to striker, Liam Delap, during Saturday’s victory over Fulham. The German club had agreed to pay €15 million for the remainder of the season, with an option to make the move permanent for €65 million.
Jackson had travelled to Munich and was photographed with Bayern supporters, expecting to complete his medical examination. However, Chelsea informed the Bundesliga champions that the transfer would not proceed after Delap suffered a muscular problem early in the 2-0 win over Fulham.
Manager Enzo Maresca indicated the injury could sideline Delap for six to eight weeks, leaving João Pedro as the only recognised striker available. The Italian coach acknowledged the squad depth issue, stating that whilst two strikers would normally suffice, having one injured for weeks creates problems.
Maresca noted that Chelsea had used different tactical solutions previously, including deploying Pedro Neto in the striker role and utilising Tyrique George, who performed well despite not playing as a number nine since facing Manchester United the previous year. The manager confirmed that having two proper strikers would be adequate in normal circumstances.
The collapsed transfer means Jackson must return from Munich to Stamford Bridge, though Chelsea retain one remaining overseas loan position should alternative arrangements be considered. The player had believed the move was proceeding when celebrating with Bayern fans before learning of the cancellation.
