April 02, (THEWILL) – Chelsea Co-owner, Todd Boehly, has reportedly decided to back head coach, Graham Potter, despite mounting pressure on the Englishman.
Nevertheless, Chelsea’s hierarchy is concerned about the team’s poor form and their low standing in the Premier League table. Even with that concern, it appears that Boehly is unwilling to make another change of head coach this season.
The Stamford Bridge club has had a difficult 2022/2023 season under Potter, who replaced the popular Thomas Tuchel, in September. The Blues’ dismal performance sparked chants from home fans during Saturday’s match against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, with supporters taunting Potter with phrases like “you don’t know what you’re doing” and “you’re getting sacked in the morning.”
In what was unthinkable in the Roman Abramovich era, the team currently sits in 11th place in the English Premier League. And, although Potter has won only 12 of his 31 games in charge of Chelsea, Boehly is standing firm in his decision to stick with him.
Meanwhile, ex-Bayern Munich boss, Julian Nagelsmann, has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Potter if Chelsea decides to make a change. Nagelsmann has expressed interest in taking on the job, but he has indicated that he would prefer to wait until the end of the season before deciding his future and returning to management.
