August 07, (THEWILL) — Chelsea have intensified their pursuit of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho as the summer transfer window enters its final weeks. Negotiations between the clubs have reportedly reached an advanced stage, with the Argentina international now expecting to join the Blues. Garnacho has reportedly ruled out all other options except moving to Stamford Bridge or remaining at Old Trafford. United’s valuation of the 21-year-old has decreased from £70 million to approximately £50 million, facilitating potential talks.

Relations between Garnacho and United deteriorated following the club’s UEFA Europa League final defeat, with the player expressing frustration over limited playing time, particularly against Tottenham Hotspur. Back in June, both club and player reportedly agreed to part ways this summer after Garnacho described the previous season as a “piece of s—“. The winger’s dissatisfaction has grown amidst speculation about his future, with United seemingly prepared to sanction his departure despite his contributions to their trophy successes.

Bayer Leverkusen previously expressed interest in Garnacho earlier in the transfer window, following Erik ten Hag’s appointment as manager after Xabi Alonso’s departure. However, the player reportedly prioritised remaining in the English Premier League should he leave Old Trafford. Ruben Amorim, who took charge at Manchester, deemed Garnacho surplus to requirements alongside Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. Rashford has already completed a loan move to Barcelona, whilst Sancho’s future remains uncertain amid ongoing transfer speculation.

Chelsea have already strengthened their attacking options this summer with the additions of João Pedro, Liam Delap, Jorrel Hato and Jamie Gittens. Garnacho, who operates effectively on both flanks, could serve as a direct replacement for Noni Madueke following his sale to Arsenal. The Blues’ continued pursuit of the United winger may influence their reported interest in RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, as Chelsea management look to finalise their transfer business before the window closes.

During his time at Man Utd, Garnacho made 144 appearances, scoring 26 goals and winning both the Carabao Cup in 2022/2023 and the FA Cup in 2023/2024, notably finding the net in the latter final. Meanwhile, United appear to be reinvesting the potential transfer funds, reportedly reaching an agreement to sign Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig earlier on Thursday. The club continues to monitor Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba as they look to reshape their squad following the departure of several attacking players.
