May 22, (THEWILL) – Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala completed their Bianconeri careers with a 2-0 defeat at Fiorentina, bringing an end to a disastrous season for Juventus.
Although Juventus finished fourth in Serie A, it has hardly been a memorable season, and this was another tough grind for the Old Lady, with Alfred Duncan opening the scoring for a Fiorentina side that was clearly the stronger of the two.
The hosts had more to play for, with their victory clinching a spot for them in the Europa Conference League for next season, when the competition will be in its second season.
But 90 minutes of mediocrity for Massimiliano Allegri and Juventus was a horrible way to close the season, especially with Chiellini and Dybala’s long service at the Artemio Franchi coming to an end.
Unfortunately, Nicolas Gonzalez’s late penalty put the game out of reach and the 2-0 result confirmed that Juventus finished with a loss and could only manage fourth place. They will be hoping for a lot better in the next campaign.
