August 13, (THEWILL) – A service of song was held on Friday, August 11, 2023, at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos State, for veteran actor, Obinna Nwafor, professionally known as Saint Obi.
The solemn gathering had family, friends and loved ones in attendance to pay homage to the late actor.
Many veteran actors who have gone into oblivion also remembered the late actor and were at the ceremony to pay their last respect.
Guests in attendance wore white garbs as a sign of mourning and honour for the soul of the departed.
However, a few who couldn’t comply with the dress code wore black garbs to the service of song.
The actor’s children took Bible readings at the service, while gospel singer, Frank Edwards, rendered some solemn songs.
A short documentary of the actor was also previewed.
The deceased estranged wife, Lynda Nwafor, also attended the ceremony. She was garbed in black flowing gown as she walked her children into the venue of the event but couldn’t take a glance at the actor’s picture which loomed large at the entrance of the venue.
She exchanged pleasantries with guests and friends in the hall while sitting quietly during the ceremony.
The mother of three also took pictures with some of the Nollywood practitioners in attendance.
Her appearance at the event came as a shock to some of the late actor’s fans as the duo didn’t have it smooth before his demise.
Saint Obi had initiated a divorce proceeding which was frustrated by Lynda who refused to appear in court.
Justice Omotayo Majekodumi, the judge in charge of the case had to issue a bench warrant for her arrest because of her continued absence in court.
Saint Obi also complained bitterly then to some of his close pals and mentor that he was prevented from seeing his children.
And his in-laws launched both physical and verbal attacks on him while accusing him of feeding fat on their daughter.
The veteran thespian died on May 7, 2023, in Jos, after battling an undisclosed ailment.
According to the flier released by his family, his burial will be held on August 18, 2023, in his hometown, Alaenyi Ogwa, Imo State.
