April 20, (THEWILL) — Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, and South African actress, Nomzamo Mbatha, have been unveiled as co-hosts of the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
The announcement, made on April 19, signals a major shift for the awards, as the duo take over from media personality, IK Osakioduwa, who hosted the event for 11 consecutive editions.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on May 9, 2026, at Eko Hotel and Suites.
Bovi described the opportunity as a defining moment in his career.
“The AMVCA stage is one of the biggest in Africa, and I don’t take that lightly. I want to bring the energy, the laughs, and the magic that this night deserves.
“That’s a plus. It’s pretty much the biggest award show in Africa, so for me, it’s a major feather to my hat and a colour to my résumé.”
Mbatha brings international recognition to the role, following her appearance in “Coming 2 America” and her lead role in the drama series “Shaka iLembe”.
The 2026 edition will feature 32 categories, including two new indigenous language categories for North and Central Africa, reflecting a broader continental focus.
Veteran actress, Joke Silva, has been appointed Head Judge, bringing industry experience to the role.
Organisers say the new hosting pair represents a fresh direction for the awards, which remain one of Africa’s biggest platforms for film and television.
The nominees for this year’s ceremony have already been announced, building anticipation for a competitive event.
