February 26, (THEWILL) — Nigerian comedian Oluwaseyitan Aletile, popularly known as Seyi Law, has apologized following backlash over his statement that “Nigeria is safer now than it was ten years ago.”
He made the comment during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast.
During the interview, he praised the Tinubu-led administration, saying the government has made progress in tackling insecurity.
He also claimed the government “has neutralized more bandits than previous administrations since the era of former President Goodluck Jonathan.”
His remarks sparked criticism from many Nigerians, who described them as insensitive to victims of kidnapping and other violent crimes.
In response to the backlash, Seyi Law took to Instagram on Thursday to share an apology video.
He said, “My fellow Nigerians, I owe you this and more. You don’t deserve to have your sleep snatched away from you and the pain of one should be the pain of all.
“I am sincerely and deeply sorry for such an insensitive statement. I apologize to victims, families and everyone who has been affected in any way by the insecurity in the country.”
He also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and urged the government to intensify efforts to improve security.
“As a supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, I want to also use this opportunity to call on him to intensify efforts in the battle against insecurity. God bless you and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
