March 31, (THEWILL) — The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to Wednesday.
His counsel, Ukpong Abang, SAN, confirmed the development shortly after the court session, noting that the legal team would return for the continuation of arguments.
Following the proceedings, the former governor was escorted out of the court premises by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, in a white Hilux vehicle amid tight security arrangements.
The former governor is standing trial on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of public property, possession of public assets, and money laundering allegations.
The court had earlier fixed March 31, 2026, for the hearing of all pending applications, including the bail request, before proceedings were moved to Tuesday’s sitting.
In a related development, El-Rufai was earlier on Tuesday arraigned before the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kawo on separate charges bordering on alleged abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
The charges before the State High Court are separate from those filed at the Federal High Court and are being prosecuted independently by the anti-corruption agency.
After the State High Court appearance, the former governor was transferred within the same judicial complex to the Federal High Court for continuation of proceedings on his bail application before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa.
