November 04, (THEWILL) – The civil rape case filed against RnB singer, Tremaine Neverson, aka Trey Songz, has been dismissed due to the expiration of statute of limitations.
According to the court document obtained by TMZ, Songz’s civil suit was thrown out on Monday, after his attorneys strongly argued that the statute of limitations expired before the woman, who is known as Jane Doe, filed her complaint against the singer.
Jane Doe had reportedly filed the suit against Songz in February, accusing him of anally raping her. In the court documents, Doe claimed that she had a consensual sexual relationship with the singer before the alleged incident.
She then stated that Songz suddenly turned into a savage rapist on March 24, 2016, after she denied his sexual advances at a house party in West Hills, California.
The statute of limitations in California is currently 10 years but it wasn’t made official until 2019. Prior to that, it was 3 years, but Jane Doe filed 6 years after the alleged rape. The woman had sued Songz for $20 million in damages.
