July 1 (THEWILL) — Legendary Hollywood actor, Danny Glover, has revealed for the first time that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
The star shared the news in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, saying he received the diagnosis in 2022.
Glover, who turns 80 on July 22, said he is still coming to terms with the condition.
“I’m still not accepting in my mind all parts of it. There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I’ll never forget”, he stated.
His daughter, Mandisa Glover, said the family first noticed changes in his memory before the diagnosis. She said he decided to speak publicly about his condition to help others.
Despite the diagnosis, Glover said he remains positive and wants to keep contributing.
“I don’t feel like it’s the end of my life. There’s work to do”, he said.
His family said he is supported by his daughter, his younger brother Marty Glover, and a team of caregivers. They also plan to continue working with doctors on treatment options.
Glover has had a career spanning more than four decades, starring in films including “Lethal Weapon”, “The Colour Purple”, “Beloved”, “Dreamgirls”, and “Death at a Funeral.”
In 2022, he received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy Awards for his humanitarian work and activism.
