Afrobeats star, Davido, has announced a two-month break from music to campaign for the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
The singer made the announcement on Tuesday, May 5, in Ede, Osun State, during the inauguration of a 43-member youth campaign committee ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The committee, named the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, will focus on grassroots mobilisation across the state. Davido will serve as chairman, with coordinators appointed across senatorial districts, federal constituencies, local government areas, and the Modakeke Area Office.
Speaking at the event, Davido said he was stepping away from music to support the campaign.
“I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle. Not only because he is my uncle, but because he is doing a good job, and he has major things to do, the job is not done.
“We are all here to support him to win the election with our influence. This is one of the most important committees because it has to do with youth.”
He urged members of the mobilisation team to conduct door-to-door campaigns across all local government areas, highlighting the governor’s achievements and plans and engaging residents at the grassroots level.
Davido has been vocal in his support for his uncle and has played an active role in past political campaigns in Osun State.
