March 24, (THEWILL) — Nigerian singer, Davido, has said his upcoming sixth studio album will focus on African sounds, moving away from Western music influences.
In a BBC 1Xtra interview on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi, he said:
“This part of my career… I’ve performed everywhere, sold out every arena, been at all the award shows. I’ve been to three Grammys in the last three years. Now, I want to go back home, I want to go back to Africa. Even the music I’m recording now is very Davido, it is very African. I’m not focused on Western sounds.”
Davido had hinted at the album during his birthday in November last year. This latest comment gives fans an early idea of what to expect.
The move follows the success of his fifth album, “5ive”, released in 2025, which was praised for its strong Nigerian identity.
Having built a global profile with collaborations and major performances, Davido says this next project will focus on his roots and connecting with African audiences.
No release date or album title has been announced yet.
