October 8, (THEWILL) – Italian champions AC Milan defeated Juventus 2-0 at the San Siro thanks to a wonderful individual effort from Brahim Diaz after Fikayo Tomori had scored a contentious opener.
Diaz’s goal was spectacular as the Spanish international picked up the ball in his own half and raced toward the Juve goal to double the home team’s lead early in the second half of Saturday’s Serie A match.
That came after Tomori had scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time of the first half, though Juventus believed there had been a foul in the buildup to the corner from which the defender scored.
Milan managed to hold out for the victory despite missing several important players, including goalie Mike Maignan, to further humiliate their former head coach Massimiliano Allegri, now at Juve.
The Rossoneri will fancy their chances of defeating Verona next time out in Serie A, but struggling Juve must contend with a difficult Turin derby against Torino. Both teams now play the same UEFA Champions League opponents for a second week in a row – Milan host Chelsea; Juventus travel to Haifa.
