Diddy Slams Netflix Documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning, Accuses Platform of Using Stolen Footage

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

December 02, (THEWILL) — Sean “Diddy” Combs has condemned the new Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning, released Tuesday, December 2, calling it a “shameful hit piece” and accusing the streaming platform of using stolen and unauthorized footage.

Combs, currently serving a 50-month federal prison sentence on trafficking and racketeering charges, shared his reaction through a spokesperson.

According to his team, Netflix used private recordings and unfinished personal material he had been filming since his teenage years for a future project.

The spokesperson said the documentary includes clips of conversations with his lawyers and other private moments that were never intended for public release.

However, director Alexandria Stapleton defended the production, stating that all footage was obtained legally and the team had full rights to use it.

She added that Combs and his legal team were contacted multiple times for an interview but did not respond.

Tensions surrounding the documentary escalated due to the involvement of rapper 50 Cent as an executive producer. Combs’s team argued that Netflix’s choice to partner with 50 Cent, with whom Combs has a long-standing feud, was a breach of trust.

“For Netflix to give his life story to someone who has publicly attacked him for decades feels like an unnecessary and deeply personal affront. At minimum, he expected fairness from people he respected,” a statement from Combs’s spokesperson read.

The documentary explores Combs’s rise, influence, and legal controversies, presenting what Netflix calls an unfiltered account of the events that led to his downfall, featuring previously unseen footage, exclusive interviews, and an in-depth look at his career.

Netflix has not issued further comments beyond releasing the official trailer.
