April 26, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan advanced to the Coppa Italia final with a 1-0 win over Juventus on Wednesday.
Federico Dimarco’s first-half goal was enough to secure a 2-1 aggregate triumph and keep Inter’s defence of the trophy on track. They will face either Cremonese or Fiorentina in the final, which is scheduled for May 24 at the Stadio Olimpico.
The match at San Siro was evenly poised after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. However, Inter took control early on and should have taken the lead through Edin Dzeko in the third minute. Dimarco’s goal, following a neat pass from Nicolo Barella, gave them the lead after 15 minutes of play.
Juventus tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but Dzeko’s goal was ruled out for offside, and they crashed out of the competition with a whimper. It is a reality check for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, who have shown some vigour recently and have been buoyed by the favourable court decision that reversed their point deduction.
Inter will now turn their attention to Serie A, where they face Lazio on Sunday. Juventus, meanwhile, travel to Bologna.
