June 29 (THEWILL) — Canadian rapper, Drake, has won more than $1 million after Canada beat South Africa 1-0 in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match held on Sunday, June 28.
Drake bet $770,000 on Canada to win. The bet returned $1,001,000, giving him a profit of about $231,000.
He shared a screenshot of the bet on Instagram before the game and said it followed a message exchange with South African DJ Black Coffee.
He wrote: “@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM I had to raise the STAKES.”
Canada scored late in the match to secure the win at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The result ended South Africa’s run in the tournament after a strong showing in earlier rounds.
Drake is known for placing large bets on major sports events, and this win adds to his history of public wagers.
