January 06, (THEWILL) – Seven first-team Manchester City players and 14 backroom staff have been compelled to self-isolate after Pep Guardiola tested positive for COVID-19 just as the Premiership announced the positive test of Burnley boss Sean Dyche.
The City manager and one of his assistants, Juanma Lillo, both tested positive on Tuesday and are now self-isolating. In the new wave of infections, 21 members of the first team squad have tested positive, according to the English Premier League champions.
On Friday, City is scheduled to face Swindon Town of League Two in the FA Cup third round. For the journey to Swindon, assistant coach Rodolfo Borrell will be in command.
Aside from the EPL champions, Burnley manager Dyche will also miss Saturday’s FA Cup clash against Huddersfield Town after testing positive himself.
The EPL team issued the following statement regarding the Burnley outbreak: “Burnley Football Club can confirm manager Sean Dyche will miss this weekend’s FA Cup third-round tie at home to Huddersfield, after testing positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. Sean will now follow the mandatory self-isolation protocols.”
