May 04, (THEWILL) – The English Premier League has unveiled its shortlist of managers for the Barclays Manager of the Month award for April.
Unai Emery, Pep Guardiola, Roy Hodgson, Eddie Howe, and Gary O’Neil have been nominated for their teams’ impressive performances during the month.
Emery is the favourite for the award, having led Aston Villa to five wins and a draw in April. Meanwhile, Guardiola’s Manchester City has taken the lead in the title race with five wins out of five league games. Hodgson guided Crystal Palace away from the relegation zone with four wins from six games, and Howe’s Newcastle are set to confirm a return to UEFA Champions League football.
Bournemouth’s O’Neil has also made the shortlist for steering the Cherries to safety with crucial wins over Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Leeds. Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta, his Arsenal side’s April performances were not enough to put him on the shortlist. The Gunners picked up six points from five games during the month.
