July 04, (THEWILL) – Manchester United believe they have won the race to recruit Christian Eriksen after his contract with Brentford expired. The Dane joined the Bees in January on a six-month deal and was a key contributor to their mid-table finish in their inaugural Premier League campaign.
Last month, Eriksen informed Brentford that he would be departing, although he later remained open to the idea of extending his stay in west London. Tottenham, his former club, also considered bringing him back. They were confident that they could pull it off had they followed through on their interest. However, they decided not to do so. West Ham, Newcastle, and Crystal Palace were also in contact.
The 30-year-old appears set to move to Old Trafford and has held new negotiation talks with United over the weekend. Although personal conditions of a three-year contract have not yet been decided, they are not thought to be a problem. Eriksen was persuaded to join because of Erik ten Hag’s personal participation, and he is impressed by their ambitions for this summer and the future.
The Dane turned down a transfer to Old Trafford in 2019 when he sought to leave Spurs for a new challenge, showing that he has long been a target for the Red Devils.
