June 28, (THEWILL) – Although Steven Bergwijn of Tottenham Hotspur has been available for signing all summer, Everton has come late into the race and wants to beat Ajax to the player’s signing.
During his time at Spurs, the Dutchman displayed fleeting bursts of talent, most notably scoring a spectacular half-volley against Manchester City on his debut and a stoppage time double against Leicester in January.
However, he has been open about his desire to leave the team due to the difficulty in getting consistent playing time, and it appeared to be a formality that he would be returning to the Netherlands with Ajax only for Everton to jump in with a significantly lucrative offer.
Bergwijn is now considering Everton’s offer despite having Ajax as his top choice. As part of Spurs’ continuing discussions regarding Richarlison, as a separate transfer, the Toffees are open to considering a trade for Bergwijn. Tottenham is in the lead for the Brazil forward, but have not yet reached an agreement with him or his club.
Everton is also interested in Harry Winks, while Spurs are considering Anthony Gordon. The north London club is willing to send players to Goodison Park as part of any deal for either forward in a swap.
