April 14, (THEWILL) – A former English Premier League player, who was arrested in 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences, will face no further action, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

The player, who has left the EPL club he was representing at the time of his arrest, was released on bail following questioning by officers. In a statement released on Friday, GMP revealed that the evidence available did not meet the required threshold for prosecution.

“The investigation team and Crown Prosecution Service have been working together and reached the decision that the evidence available at this time does not reach the threshold set out in the Code for Crown Prosecutors,” the statement read.

While the former player has been cleared of any charges, GMP reiterated its commitment to investigating allegations of child sex offences.

“Greater Manchester Police is committed to investigating allegations to secure the best possible outcomes for all involved and will continue to work with partner agencies to ensure individuals are supported throughout investigations and beyond,” the statement added.
