April 14, (THEWILL) – Manchester United’s defender, Lisandro Martinez, is set to miss the remainder of the season due to a foot injury he sustained during Thursday’s 2-2 draw against Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League.

Martinez, who was carried off the pitch by the Sevilla players, fell to the ground clutching his right foot in the 86th minute of the match. This comes as a significant blow for the Red Devils, who are also currently assessing another injured centre-back, Raphael Varane.

Varane was also forced off the pitch in the game against Sevilla, and the severity of his foot injury is still under review. The club is hopeful that Varane’s injury will not end his campaign as well. The partnership between Varane and Martinez has been a solid part of the United defence, and the loss of both is a significant setback.

Since joining Old Trafford last summer, Martinez has been a key player for the club. The 25-year-old Argentine was also an integral part of the team that won the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Martinez has made 45 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions, including 27 in the English Premier League, where he scored one goal.

With the club’s next match against Nottingham Forest coming up on Sunday, United will have to find a way to overcome the loss of both Martinez and Varane while hoping the latter can return sooner than later.
