November 05, (THEWILL) – According to PFL CEO, Peter Murray, former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, is set to make his debut with the Professional Fighters League in 2024. Murray revealed this week that the promotion is “putting that fight together as we speak” and they are “excited about it.”
The announcement comes on the heels of Ngannou’s recent boxing match against heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, last week. Despite losing a controversial split decision, the 37-year-old Ngannou managed to knock Fury down, giving him one of his “toughest fights of the last 10 years,” Murray said.
As for other potential PFL opponents, Murray mentioned top names like Jon Jones, Stipe Miocic and Deontay Wilder as possibilities. “Francis wants Jon Jones, and Jon Jones wants Francis. Francis wants Stipe [Miocic], and Stipe wants Francis,” Murray said. “And there’s a conversation going on with Deontay Wilder, whether it’s boxing, whether it’s modified rules. That could be exciting, so that’s a real consideration.”
Ngannou previously held the UFC heavyweight title before leaving the promotion earlier this year after contract disputes. His PFL debut will mark his first MMA fight since January 2022.
With big-name potential matchups on the horizon, Ngannou’s move to PFL promises to bring excitement and attention to the promotion in 2024. His debut will be highly anticipated by MMA fans eager to see the feared fighter back in action.
