July 2 (THEWILL) — Former UK pop star Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with historical sexual offences dating back to 1978.
The Metropolitan Police said the charges include one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14. The alleged offences relate to one victim.
Police said the incidents are alleged to have taken place between 1978 and 1981 at a residential address in Kensington, London.
Gadd is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
The allegations were first reported to police in January 2025, and he was interviewed in July 2025 as part of the investigation.
The Crown Prosecution Service said there is enough evidence to bring the case to court and that it is in the public interest to proceed.
He is currently serving a prison sentence after being convicted in 2015 of multiple child sex offences. He remains in custody at HMP Channings Wood in Devon.
Gadd was a major star of the 1970s UK glam rock scene, known for heavy drum beats, simple guitar riffs, and chant-style choruses.
He achieved major chart success before later facing a string of convictions for child sexual abuse in the UK and abroad.
Over the years, his songs were removed from radio stations, sports stadiums, and streaming playlists following his convictions.
His most well-known songs include “Rock and Roll (Parts 1 and 2)”, “I’m the Leader of the Gang (I Am!)”, “Hello, Hello, I’m Back Again” and “Another Rock and Roll Christmas.”
The new charges are separate from his earlier convictions.
